Tea leaf reading has become a huge craze for parties, hen nights and corporate events in 2010 fuelled by with the arrival of the new Alice in Wonderland film and the UK's passion for cup cakes and Vintage tea parties

What are the origins of Tea leaf reading?

Tea leaf reading actually first became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries and it is one of the most traditional methods of fortune telling still in use today; the Victorians in particular were fascinated with fortune telling and tea leaf reading

In keeping with a Tea Party theme, our tea leaf readers can dress as the Mad Hatter* or even Alice herself (*as provided recently for the V&A museum and pictured above, a Chinese Tea Merchant, a Victorian Butler or in vintage burlesque style costumes (in addition to our standard looks of mystical, elegant and funky)

Tea leaf readings are a very visual 1-1 form of entertainment for parties; soon creating lots of interest. Everyone loves to know more about themselves and queues of hopeful clients appear very quickly.

How does it work?
A small amount of tea is poured into a cup and the liquid drained off, leaving the tea leaves behind. The cup is then turned upside down on its saucer and rotated three times.

The tea leaf reader then interprets the patterns made by the leaves in the cup. Tea leaf readings can be given using either the client's own cups, our Chinese cups, Victorian crockery or an authentic Edwardian-style divination cup and saucer.
